Have you ever touched an ancient artifact, or let’s not go that far, a handmade embroidery? Why is the feeling different from touching, say, an electronic gadget or a synthetic cloth? The sense of reality is lacking. It’s mass production, it’s mechanized, and once the production of a single item is perfected, thousands, or even millions like it can be produced without an iota of difference. It is not special. It is not specifically made for you. This is why I hand paint my bus scrolls.

The moment you say “handmade” it means personal. It means unique. It means, the item you’re holding is not merely one of millions being held by people all over the city or all over the world. It’s been specially made for you, and no one in the world has what you have.

That’s why I hand print your bus scrolls. I employ the age-old tradition of laying down and printing individual alphabets and numbers to render a touch of reality. From font types to color shades to the course and grainy background and minute roughness on the edges, everything is carried out by hand. Whether you want to adorn your plush office walls or avant-garde studio surroundings, my hand painted bus scrolls and destination scrolls easily bring back the iconic times of the 60s and the 70s when buses and trams used to sport destination scrolls over front and back sides.

But why handmade? Why not simply go for printed bus scrolls that might be cheaper compared to handmade bus scrolls and the turnaround time might also be shorter compared to hand made? It is a matter of personal choice actually. There is a reason people buy a Rolls-Royce rather than a mass produced automobile. The magical amalgamation of finesse and coarseness can only manifest in hand made bus scrolls and therein lies the true essence of a bus scroll. When you go for a printed version they simply run the canvas through a printer and lo! your bus scroll is ready to be shipped. It will be immaculate and it may also trick you into believing that you have a true piece of art in your hand. But you won’t have that textured feeling that you get only from handmade bus scrolls.

And as I just mentioned above when you have a handmade bus scroll on your wall you have something totally unique. The beauty of handmade artworks is that the same pattern is very hard to replicate: there are subtle changes in every new piece of work. Besides you also get the individual mark of the artist that you can never get from a machine printed bus scroll.

Here is a quick preview of how I prepare my bus scrolls.
